Gareth Hudson has established a remarkable career as a musician, composer, teacher and record producer. Gareth studied classical piano and composition at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music graduating in 2002.   Gareth is currently undertaking a Masters Of Screen: Music at AFTRS.
Gareth owns and manages the Hazy Cosmic Jive recording studio, and has produced and recorded with artists including: Amy Vee, The Last Kinection, Briggs (feat. Gurrumul), The Beards, Jaytee, Hilltop Hoods, Buddy Knox, Auriel Andrew, Daniel March, Kirsty Larkin, Ben And The Sea, and many more.  The album 'Buddy’s Blues' won best male vocal at the 2011 Australian Blues Music Awards, for the song Buddy's Got The Blues Again, co-written by Knox, Hudson and Higginbotham. Gareth received “Best Producer” nomination for the 2008 Australian Blues Music Awards, and best producer for the ABC Newcastle Music Awards in 2008 and 2009. Listen to examples here.
He formed and led indie pop band The Good (1999-2006), releasing an EP and three albums, including Move Along which won an ABC Award in 2004. Gareth toured the UK and Europe with The Good, performing at festivals such as: The Edinburgh Fringe, The Whitby World Music Festival, and Milan’s Dolce & Gabbana International Fashion Show.  

Gareth's original band Hudson Arc, has been featured at venues and festivals around Germany, Netherlands, UK, France, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, as well as various tours and radio appearances in Australia.   He is a key member of the award winning Buddy Knox Blues Band. Buddy’s blues band has been featured at events such as the Byron Bay Blues & Roots Festival, Woodford Folk and Dreaming Festival, Wintersun, Darling Harbour Jazz & Blues Festival, and the Blue Mountains Music Festival.  Gareth has co-written, arranged music and performs live on keyboards with the rapper Briggs. ​
Gareth’s musical theatre work began with The Shining Isle: A Rock Opera, co-written with librettist Nick Higginbotham, which had it’s world premiere season at Newcastle’s Civic Theatre, October 2006. The show had a sellout season and a song from the show, Voyage To Khe Alohi Lani, won an ABC music award in 2006. His music has also underscored plays: The True Pheonix (Carl Caulfield, 2007); In A Mosh Pit No-One Can Hear You Scream, (David Brown, 2003); Shakespeare’s Fools (Carl Caulfield, 2010) and Mermaids of Mull (Nick Higginbotham, 2010). Gareth received a 2007 SPARK grant from the Australian Arts Council and Youth Arts Queensland to compose for a major theatre piece with Nick Higginbotham, Between Worlds, which is currently being workshopped for performance with acclaimed Sydney director Jason Langley. He won a City Of Newcastle Drama Award (CONDA) for his lead performance starring alongside Jon English in Buskers & Angels in 2009.
